DRAWING FROM DRAWING – 2
Back in 2016, we introduced the concept of Drawing from Drawing. I find it difficult to believe that it has been two years without another DFD page. So here is another.
This drawing sequence started with Picasso’s painting, Bathers, Project for a Monument. With Transparent Drawing form generation methodologies, I generated the drawing at the top of the page, which we will call Drawing 1. You should see a general sympathy of the geometries of Drawing 1 in relation to the painting. Below, you will find three subsequent iterations of drawings, each drawing used the previous drawing as inspiration.
Drawing 2. The drawing above uses the forms and movement of the forms generally established in Drawing 1. Same number of shapes, just more of an interrelationship in which they might start to work together as a cohesive form, which could be a building.
Drawing 3. The drawing above employs the basic geometry established in drawing 2. The addition is what might be called connectivity elements: I had this image of a sort of mech system of connectors which might give greater integration to them.
Drawing 4. Using the connectivity elements as a concept, I imagined a simple house form which has a gable connectivity tissue on one end which then serves as the formation for the freely shaped forms. So another addition to the House Dress folder. And this is a Ready To Build solution.
The gestation of designs should be shown. Along with the pretty pictures of a project should be the gestation process. This will assure a higher Design Quotient. Most significantly, the Provenance Quotient will be high. There is greater authenticity. This will help inspire others to find their own gestation path, rather than simply copy out of a design book or from a website.
Let us forge new and exciting forms under our own power and from our own methods!
