DRAWING ON AIRPLANES
We are traveling this week. So I prepared this travel related post ahead of time.
You’re probably tired of hearing me extol the virtues of drawing transparently from photos that you took with your phone. So here is a slight variation of that theme; drawing on airplanes.
I made this drawing on our way back from Turkey during our Munich – Chicago leg. Now that I look at it many months after I drew it, it appears that this is the clearest transparent drawing that I made of Hagia Sophia. There is a rather clear sense of the cascading of the forms and the structural loads.
Which should be no surprise. The more that you draw something, the more you know about that object. And the more that you know, the better your next drawing will be. So it may very well be that this Hagia Sophia drawing came together after my previous more halting drawings. Or maybe it was the boredom of sitting in the plane that gave me the urge to draw something, anything.
Either way, I ended up making another drawing. And any time you do that, it is a good day. Maybe even a good flight.
