HEROIC LINES
An image found on the web. A few heroic lines on the paper. A quick wash or two. A resolved, unique and authentic form.
That really is at the heart of Transparent Drawing.
A Kawakubo design will get you there. When I found this image, I mapped the forms of the dress over the gable box, the faint outlines which remain visible. Pure and simple.
The example above is from the House Dress series.
What else would anybody want? Where else are you even encouraged, or shown the way, to do this? Where else are you shown a clear method to get from an image that you find interesting to an authentic, resolved form? Where else are you shown both the inspiration and the resulting design?
