INPUT – OUTPUT

For the first time, we generate a holistic form in real time, using the fundamentals of Transparent Drawing. The provenance quotient is 100. The authenticity is verified. It is all analogue. There is no algorithm.

INPUT
This image in Haeckel’s book, Kunstformen-der-Natur, served as the starting point. As the first step, I knowledge this form on my paper, using a blue permanent felt tip.

DRAWING 1
The blue lines of Haeckel’s form can just be seen in the underdrawing. The form is knowledged holistically. Even though Haeckel’s image is in Representational Spacetime, I make assumptions about what I could not see to complete the form.

DRAWING 1

Over the blue lines, I then drew what I felt like drawing, in response to the form. I made projections and connections. With an Automatic Form mindset, I applied tones with both water soluble pencil dipped in water, as well as black acrylic ink. I was not afraid to Draw At The Boundary Of Form. Yet each tone was a geometric response to the blue form. I then applied white acrylic ink, as a step toward form clarification, in relation to the dark tones that had already been applied.

DRAWING 2

DRAWING 2.
Drawing From Drawing enabled me to reduce the geometry of Drawing 1 to something more simplified. Yet I wanted the drawing to essentially depict a holistic, resolved form. I used a water soluble gel ink pen, and then applied a brief clear water tone. I wanted to keep this as simple as possible, while still responding to the elements in Drawing 1.

OUTPUT – FORM IN REAL TIME

OUTPUT
I then built a form in real time from Drawing 2. Each of the lines of Drawing 2 served as a demarcation for the planes. As you can see, I was reasonably faithful to the elements in the drawing.

So there it is, the first real time form constructed using the Transparent Drawing methodology. I can see many applications for the form. This could be a ceramic. Oriented vertically, it could be clothing. It could be a building. With some adjustments, it could be a kitchen utensil. How about the basic concept for an organic Swiss Army Knife?

I believe this gives a powerful extension as proof of concept for Transparent Drawing. What I offer above could be easily incorporated into any design studio. We start with a holistic form, and we end up with a fresh form in real time that was previously unimaginable. Time is brought full circle. The process for the form generation is authentic. I did not copy anything. And there was no digital algorithm.

And most importantly, this was fun to do. And the form that I generated, at least to me, is pleasing.

KO: Is there any way your web software would allow a viewer to tap on an image to see it “stand alone” so as to enlarge the image? Sometimes I read your posts on my cellphone & I can’t get the image large enough to”read”. That would help to examine the drawing in detail. For example, the blue lines you write of don’t really come through on a cellphone screen because the image is too small. Without being able to closely view your drawing, arguments are rendered moot.

PS Cool output! I’d like a pavilion like that on a rise in a hundred acres of land surrounded by prairie grass.
