ROAD NOTES
Sometimes, you simply can’t slam on the brakes. And when you can’t, Road Notes will help you.
Your inability to slam on the brakes so as to take a picture could be for any number of reasons:
– there is a large truck right behind you
– you are trying to get somewhere
– the light at dusk is insufficient
– you are not driving and you simply can’t ask the driver to slam on the brakes / turn the car around
– your travel partner seems tired of you slamming on the brakes and turning the car around just to take another picture.
In any of these cases, I then try to remember the form that I saw, and then when you are back with your sketchbook, you can knowledge the interesting form.
These pages have extolled the virtues of rental car abuse when traveling. We have defined the travel concept of Stop, Snap and Roll. We have applied these principals to, for example, Ordinary Buildings in Morocco. When traveling, too many simply unbelievable forms are by the roadside, and your duty, yes, your duty, is to snap a photo or two so that you can knowledge it later. But when you can’t do that, then give Road Notes a try.
And as we would expect, our Road Notes drawings are very schematic. You try to summon a clear image from the thousands that are in your head. Yet, if you look at my drawing at the top of the page, it is amazing that an agricultural building had a folded roof with a truss type structure – what a beautiful piece! And in my bottom drawing, there were so many houses out in the landscape which combined one gable and one shed in very interesting and creative ways. With my Road Notes, I have now knowledged these forms.
Had to smile at “–your travel partner seems tired of you slamming on the brakes and turning the car around just to take another picture.” Safe travels. Come home together! RS
