SUBURBAN GROUND EFFECTS
We are traveling this week. So I offer these brief posts on various topics that I have prepared ahead of time.
Although this may not exactly be the most burning design question, what would happen if you incorporated Formula 1 racecar ground effects onto suburban houses?
Why would you want to, first of all? Well, typical suburban houses really are the most insensitive design typology that exists. They typically do not respond at all to the site, the climate, which direction south is, which direction the prevailing winds come from, etc.
Developers produce these houses with only economy in mind. The basic impetus is not to create some sort of wonderful living scenario. Instead it is to make a buck. Not that there is anything wrong with making a buck.
So the thought occurred; what if suburban tract houses were upgraded with Formula 1 shapes and effects? My drawing above is my simple effort in this regard.
As silly as this may sound, automobile type shapes could fine tune the sun shading, make the house more energy efficient by making it more streamlined, provide re-orientation of the rooms to better respond to the site, and on and on.
