What is your knowledge state?

We live in a time where knowledge is now downloadable. Enter any question into Search, and multiple lingual answers are immediately returned. Enter any image into Search, and multiple images, some with great similarity, are returned. Our knowledge database, is increasingly, and will be ever more so, in the cloud. We are uploading ourselves. Knowledge will no longer reside within us as humans. The transfer is already occurring.

There is great value in any tool, any pathway, that allows knowledge to be generated by humans, and to reside within humans. There is a quality difference. And this quality difference is significant. A human derived solution has greater resonance. There is a stronger emotional link. It is more satisfying. It can be utilized. It is real. It will be worth more money.

(OMG. Did they really mention monetization? I think they did.)

What are the components of a quality difference?
-Interaction.
-Nuance.
-Temporal.
-Manipulation.
-Time.
-Process.
With analogue, all of these components are increased. The positive variation of these variables strengthens the human connection pathway. With analogue, it is as if you are putting new knowledge into your body. Learning is a form of translation in which knowledge incorporates into self.

One of the central questions in education right now is to posit required changes to how we knowledge, how we learn, how we understand, in light of downloadable information. While there have always been knowledge repositories that we could utilize, what has fundamentally changed is time. Instantaneous knowledge downloads have changed our relationship to knowledge that resides within us as humans. Digitally facilitated shortened time for knowledge is an important quality distinction. As a cloud download, there is less nuance, less process, etc. Therefore, the solution / the output is not the same.

Notice that I am not saying which is better. For if I did, it would send readers into fits of apoplectic seizures. We’ll save the “better” discussion for another time.

Whatever the medium. Whatever the spacetime. It is no longer enough to simply flop out your architectural solution, your dress design, your piece of sculptural pottery, your furniture design, etc. Now, you need to show where your knowledge is. What is your knowledge state? What is the knowledge which allows your piece, your solution, your design to exist? Where is the knowledge that elevates your work above the mediocre? Where is the knowledge that justifies your work? Show me the knowledge. Show the provenance. Show me where the knowledge resides.

And I’ll show you which is more money.
