WORKING BALANCE
What are the marks that you make on the surface? What is your working balance?
Are they lines? Does the term line confuse the issue? A line as defined by Euclidian modalities does not exist.
Are they traces? A trace is produced from movement: a path worn into the field from deer, contrails, tire tracks in the snow, drawing a line in the sand, what your pencil leaves as you drag it across the wet ink.
Are they threads? A thin, tensile construct, is what we commonly call a thread, or a wire, or hair, or etc. A thread is a physical object. It can be stretched taught, although it will never assume pure straightness.
Marks on surfaces are physical objects. Imagined lines are what we invent to connect the stars to form constellations. Traces can become lines. Lines can turn into traces. A mark can transform into thread.
Put these terms into a working balance:
-mark
-trace
-line
-thread
